#About Me

COUNCILLOR. DR GRENVILLE HOLLAND

Grenville Holland was a City Councillor for 22 years. As Deputy Leader of the Council he held a variety of Cabinet posts and was made Mayor of Durham City in 2008. That same year he was elected to the new unitary authority as the County Councillor for the Neville’s Cross division and was re-elected in May 2013. He was made an Alderman of the City in 2009.

Grenville made Durham his family home when he joined the Department of Geology at Durham University in 1965. He is married to Olive and they have 3 sons, Grant, Piers and John.

Over the years his geological and environmental expertise enabled him to play a central role in several successful campaigns and public enquiries on planning and environmental issues. He was especially involved in helping a community group successfully block proposals to mine andalusite at Tom Duff in County Carlow, Ireland. Grenville’s green credentials are long established and deep rooted.

He has often spoken out on behalf of the residents and on the issues that are important to them and believes that planning will be critical to the welfare of Neville’s Cross and the City over the next few years
