#About-Grenville’s involvement with Student and Community Sports

Grenville has had a long involvement with and love of cricket both as a club player and for many years in an administrative role. For 34 years, always in an unpaid capacity, he was President of Durham University Cricket Club and nurtured the talents of over 70 Test and county cricketers, including Nasser Hussain, Tim Curtis, John Stephenson, Jeremy Snape and Andrew Strauss as well as many others who hold senior roles in broadcasting (Simon Hughes, Chris Hollins, Nasser Hussain, Paul Allott and Tim Wellock), at the ICC (Wasim Raja), the ECB (Alan Fordham, Rob Johnson, Gordon Lord), the MCC (John Stephenson, Tim O’Gorman, Mark Semmence), PCA (Tim O’Gorman, Simon Ecclestone) and the IPL (Jeremy Snape, Sean Morris, Rob Johnson, Rob Hillman and Glen Read).

The 1980s and 1990s were the golden years of Durham University cricket when the students carried all before them with national and European indoor titles, an annual tally of national university titles and regular overseas tours.

More recently he has taken on the challenge as President of the Northern Universities Students Club, sponsored by the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead. This Club brings together students and young people from across the North East who, irrespective of their social and ethnic background, share a commitment to cricket at a high level.
